Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness Launches Mayor's Youth Service Award Program

TelAve News/10894328
~ Fishers, IN- Mayor Scott Fadness has announced the launch of a new initiative, the Mayor's Youth Service Awards program, aimed at encouraging junior high and high school students to give back to their community through volunteerism and civic engagement.

The program, which is open to Fishers residents enrolled in public, private or home school programs, recognizes students who dedicate their time to serving others through qualified nonprofits and approved community partners. These partners include local service organizations, schools, and neighborhood programs.

According to Mayor Fadness, "Serving others is one of the most impactful ways our young residents can shape their community. This program not only recognizes that commitment but also helps instill a lifelong passion for civic engagement."

Students will be recognized at various levels based on the number of volunteer hours completed. These levels include Bronze (50-99 hours), Silver (100-149 hours), Gold (150-199 hours), Platinum (200-299 hours), and Diamond (300+ hours). Each level comes with its own set of rewards such as certificates of civic leadership, lapel pins, graduation cords, letters of commendation from Mayor Fadness, and even a breakfast with the mayor.

Interested students can register for the program by creating an account through Volunteer Fishers at FishersIN.gov/MYSA. Those who are already registered with Volunteer Fishers can transfer previously completed volunteer hours towards the award.

With volunteer opportunities available year-round, students can earn service hours at any level of commitment. Some upcoming opportunities include volunteering at the Fishers AgriPark where volunteers assist with planting, watering, weeding, tending livestock and helping visitors with produce picking and questions. Other opportunities include helping out at popular events like Fishers Touch-a-Truck and Spark!Fishers.

Volunteer roles are also available for the Geist Half Race Series in September where students can help with packet pickup, course support, parking assistance, and start/finish line operations.

More information about the Mayor's Youth Service Award program and volunteer opportunities can be found at FishersIN.gov/MYSA. The City of Fishers' volunteer engagement program, Volunteer Fishers, also provides a full list of opportunities at VolunteerFishers.com.

Mayor Fadness hopes that this program will not only recognize the dedication and hard work of young volunteers but also inspire them to continue giving back to their community for years to come. With the launch of the Mayor's Youth Service Awards program, Fishers is sure to see an increase in civic engagement and a stronger sense of community among its youth.
