BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - TelAve -- For Anna D. Banks, learning can open a new chapter at any age. In September, she joined fellow members of the Rotary Club of West Orange at Oakwood Avenue Community School in Orange, New Jersey, to give a third-grade class personal dictionaries and help students discover how to use them.

Banks, founder and managing director of Thrive Leadership Institute, Inc., is a West Orange Rotarian and chair of the Rotary District 7475 Public Image Committee. She participated alongside Rotarians Quantavia Hilbert, Jerry Tarnoff, and Cynthia Hadley-Bailey.

During the classroom visit, students wrote their names in the dictionaries they could keep. They used the table of contents to find pages about New Jersey, multiplication, Braille, and sign language. Principal Dana Gaines joined the presentation as students answered questions and explored their new books.

The visit was part of the West Orange Rotary Club Gerry Lichtenstein Dictionary Project. Named for a longtime project chairperson and educator, the project provides personal dictionaries to third-grade students in the Orange School District. The classroom lesson put Rotary's September Basic Education and Literacy Month theme into action.

Banks's work with adult learners carries a related message: what people already know can help them move forward. On September 22, her book, The Wealth You Carry™: Turn What You Know Into What Comes Next, reached No. 1 on Amazon's bestseller ranking in the Vocational Guidance category. The book invites women considering their next chapter to recognize and use the knowledge and experience they have gained.

From helping children explore a new book to encouraging adults to see the value of their own experience, Banks's work reflects a commitment to learning across generations.
