General Manager named for Idaho Falls Power

~ Idaho Falls Power has announced the appointment of Chris Fredericksen as the new General Manager, pending confirmation from the City Council. Fredericksen will be responsible for overseeing the operations and strategic direction of both Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber, ensuring reliable and affordable electric service to the community.
According to Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw, Fredericksen's extensive experience in public service and infrastructure development make him the ideal candidate for this role. As an east Idaho native, he has been in Public Works for 25 years and has a strong track record of overseeing major projects, improving operational efficiency, and fostering a service-oriented team culture.
Burtenshaw also expressed her appreciation for Stephen Boorman, who has served as Interim General Manager for almost a year. She commended his knowledge of the public power system and city administration, which have been crucial during this transition period.
Fredericksen's appointment comes after a series of postings by Idaho Falls Power seeking a new General Manager. The City Council meeting on April 23 at 6:30 p.m. will consider his appointment.

A graduate of Idaho State University and a licensed professional engineer, Fredericksen has been serving as the City's Public Works Director for 13 years. Prior to joining Idaho Falls Power, he worked at the Idaho Transportation Department.
Mayor Burtenshaw highlighted Fredericksen's proven leadership on large and complex projects, commitment to staff development, and dedication to excellence as key factors in his selection. She believes that his experience and leadership style will complement the existing team at Idaho Falls Power and position the utility for continued growth and success.
In response to his appointment, Fredericksen expressed excitement about taking on this new role and continuing the innovation and work ethic that exists at Idaho Falls Power. He believes that it is a standard for what every city electric utility should strive towards and is confident that it will remain a power player in the West. He also reassured customers that they can continue to expect low rates, reliable power, and great customer service.
The City of Idaho Falls has been actively seeking a new General Manager for several months, with postings on April 10, March 12, February 18, January 23, and December 04 of 2025. With Fredericksen's appointment pending confirmation from the City Council, the community can look forward to continued excellence in their electric service under his leadership.
