Good Shepherd prepares 1,200 Christmas meals for the homeless and marginalized

TORONTO - TelAve -- This Boxing Day, December 26, from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m., Good Shepherd Centre (412 Queen Street East) will be serving a festive meal for the needy in our community. Dozens of volunteers will help serve this free meal.

What does it take to serve 1200 meals?
  • 120 turkeys
  • 40 litres (11 gallons) of gravy
  • 60 kilograms (132 pounds) of cranberry sauce
  • 454 kilos (1,000 pounds) of potatoes
  • 73 kilos (160 pounds) mixed veggies
  • 109 kilos (240 pounds) of stuffing from scratch
  • 150 pies

Good Shepherd Centre runs Toronto's largest free meal program, serving meals 365 days a year to any individual in need. In 2024, Good Shepherd provided 389,359 meals to those experiencing food insecurity. Generous donors help make it possible to serve hot, nutritious food at Christmas and throughout the year.
