Goodwill SWFL Highlights Free Programs Addressing Employment Barriers Despite Low Unemployment
TelAve News/10898910
FORT MYERS, Fla. - TelAve -- While Florida continues to report declining unemployment claims for the third consecutive week, many individuals across Southwest Florida still face significant challenges in accessing and maintaining employment. Goodwill Southwest Florida is working to bridge that gap through a wide range of free programs and services designed to help job seekers overcome barriers and achieve long-term self-sufficiency.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, initial unemployment claims in Florida dropped to an estimated 5,167 for the week ending May 30, down from 5,970 the previous week. Despite this downward trend, the state's unemployment rate has increased in recent monthly reports, reaching 4.8% in mid-April, with approximately 532,000 Floridians unemployed.
"Low unemployment numbers don't always tell the whole story," said Angela Hemstreet, Director of Employment Services at Goodwill Southwest Florida. "We still see people facing real challenges. Those can be building job skills, finding reliable transportation, or needing a little extra support to stay on track. Our goal is to meet people where they are and help them take that next step forward."
