Governor Abbott Announces Over $1.6 Million In Career Training Grants To Six North Central Texas Schools
TelAve News/10873751
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that six North Central Texas schools will receive a total of over $1.6 million in career training grants. These grants, awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), aim to support career and technical education (CTE) programs and equip students with the necessary skills for high-demand, well-paying jobs after graduation.
According to Governor Abbott, the strong economy of Texas is largely dependent on career and technical training programs that prepare young Texans for success in high-demand industries. He expressed his gratitude to the TWC for their efforts in investing in the education of students and helping them secure better job opportunities with higher salaries.
The JET grants, presented by TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza, will benefit more than 540 students from six North Central Texas schools. These grants will assist the schools in purchasing and installing equipment needed to train students for occupations such as nurses, mechanics, truck drivers, and more.
Commissioner Esparza emphasized the importance of these grants in preparing a skilled workforce to meet the needs of Texas employers. He also highlighted the collaborative efforts between TWC and local partners across the state to achieve this goal.

The awards were presented at a ceremony held at Temple College's Workforce and Virtual Arts Building in Temple. The event was attended by state and local officials as well as school staff.
The six JET grants include a $330,535 grant for Academy Independent School District (ISD) to train 218 students as licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses in partnership with Temple College. Blooming Grove ISD will receive a $314,047 grant to train 16 students as nurses through their partnership with Navarro College. Hill College will use their $260,870 grant to train 96 students as truck drivers while Navarro College will train 100 students as mechanics with their $349,009 grant. Rice ISD will receive a $134,671 grant to train 90 students as registered nurses in partnership with Navarro College. Lastly, Temple College will use their $224,136 grant to train 20 students as mechanics.
The JET grants are made possible through funding provided by the Texas Legislature every two years. TWC utilizes these grants to cover start-up costs for developing or expanding CTE programs in public community, state and technical colleges, school districts, and open-enrollment charter schools. The equipment purchased through these grants must be used for training students in high-demand occupations.
For more information on TWC's JET grant program, interested parties can visit their website. With these grants in place, it is evident that Texas is committed to investing in the education and future of its students by providing them with the necessary skills for success in the workforce.
