Governor Abbott Announces Over $26 Million In Grants To Texas Military Communities
TelAve News/10891780
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the Texas Military Preparedness Commission (TMPC) will be providing over $26 million in grant funding for infrastructure projects in military communities. This funding is part of the Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) program and aims to support military installations in Texas and protect jobs in these communities.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of these funds, stating that Texas is home to over 1.7 million veterans, active duty, reserve personnel, and their families. He believes that investing in these infrastructure projects will not only enhance the safety and well-being of Texans and Americans but also ensure that military facilities are equipped with the latest technology.
The TMPC's goal is to preserve, protect, expand, and attract new military missions, assets, and installations in Texas. The commission advises the Governor and the Texas Legislature on defense and military issues. It also encourages defense-related businesses to expand or relocate to Texas.
This first round of grants for fiscal years 2026-2027 marks a significant milestone as Governor Abbott has awarded over $172 million through the DEAAG program since 2015. These funds will be distributed among various entities for specific projects aimed at improving infrastructure at military installations.
