Governor Abbott Announces SBA Assistance For South Texas Severe Weather
TelAve News/10864908
~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott revealed that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved his request for a disaster declaration for several South Texas communities. This declaration comes in response to severe storms that ravaged the area last month, causing significant damage and disruption.
The affected counties include Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, and San Patricio. With this declaration in place, residents and businesses in these areas will have access to critical financial assistance to aid in their recovery efforts.
Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude for the approval of this disaster declaration, stating that it will provide much-needed support for those impacted by the storms. He encouraged all Texans who suffered storm damage to apply for low-interest loans through the SBA so they can begin rebuilding their homes and businesses.
The SBA has granted access to its Home Disaster Loans, Business Physical Disaster Loans, and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program. These loans will offer low-interest rates to qualifying homeowners, renters, and businesses in the affected South Texas communities.

Applicants can apply online at sba.gov/disaster or call the SBA's Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 for more information on disaster assistance. Those with hearing or speech disabilities can dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services. Completed applications should be mailed to the U.S. Small Business Administration's Processing and Disbursement Center.
To further assist with the application process and address any questions about the disaster loan programs, SBA representatives will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center starting tomorrow at 12:00 PM. The center will be located at 601 E. Main Street in Alice, TX and will be open weekdays from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Governor Abbott has been actively working to provide resources for local communities impacted by severe storms. This includes requesting a federal disaster declaration, conducting joint preliminary damage assessments with local, state, and federal partners, and activating state emergency response resources ahead of severe weather threats.
The governor urges all those affected by the storms to take advantage of the assistance available through the SBA and other resources to help them recover from this disaster.
