TelAve News/10856293
~ In a move to further solidify Texas' position as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing, Governor Greg Abbott has announced the extension of a $2 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to KoMiCo Technology, Inc. The grant will support the expansion of KoMiCo's facility in Round Rock, which specializes in precision cleaning and coatings for semiconductor wafer manufacturing tools.

According to Governor Abbott, this investment is part of Texas' strategic efforts to secure critical domestic supply chains and lead the American resurgence in semiconductor manufacturing. The expansion is expected to create 70 new jobs and bring in $36 million in capital investment.

KoMiCo, a subsidiary of KoMiCo Ltd., provides parts cleaning and coating services as well as sells equipment parts to customers in the semiconductor industry. With this investment, the company plans to expand its facility by over 40,000 square feet and increase its clean room capacity and production lines for contamination removal and coating application. These processes are crucial in ensuring that wafer surfaces are free from impurities that can cause defects in microstructures.

KoMiCo USA CEO Sung Soo Jang expressed gratitude towards the State of Texas for their support through this grant. He believes that this investment not only strengthens their industry but also contributes to the technological advancement of the nation. Jang also credits Governor Abbott's commitment to progress and excellence for making this possible.

Senator Sarah Eckhardt also commended this investment, stating that it will not only create good jobs but also support prosperity for communities in Central Texas. She believes that KoMiCo's continued presence in the region will contribute to Texas' leadership in technology innovation.

The TSIF was established through the Texas CHIPS Act signed into law by Governor Abbott in 2023. It aims to encourage continued leadership in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing through incentives such as grants. The program is administered by the newly formed Texas CHIPS Office, a division within the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office. These efforts are also supported by the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC), which aims to leverage Texas' investments in the semiconductor industry and maintain its position as the nation's leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

With this latest grant to KoMiCo, Texas continues to make strategic investments in the semiconductor industry, solidifying its position as a leader in this critical sector. The expansion of KoMiCo's facility in Round Rock is expected to not only create jobs and bring in capital investment but also contribute to the state's overall economic growth and technological advancement.
