~ In a recent announcement, Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Janine Turner to the Texas Commission on the Arts. Turner, a native of North Texas, will serve on the commission until August 31, 2029.

The Texas Commission on the Arts is responsible for promoting and supporting the arts in the state. Its mission is to create an environment that fosters cultural enrichment for citizens and attracts talented artists to make Texas their home.

Turner brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She is an Emmy and three-time Golden Globe nominated actress, best known for her role as Maggie O'Connell in the hit CBS series Northern Exposure. She has also starred in blockbuster films such as Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone and Leave it to Beaver with Universal Studios.

Born and raised in Euless and Fort Worth, Turner began her career at the young age of three as a model with The Kim Dawson Agency. She also trained as an apprentice with the Fort Worth Ballet and performed at Casa Mañana, a classic theater in Fort Worth.

In addition to her successful acting career, Turner has also hosted her own talk radio show, The Janine Turner Show, in Dallas and Houston for over two years. In 2010, she founded Constituting America, a non-partisan organization dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

As a visiting scholar, Turner has given over 600 speeches across the country on various topics including women's issues, motivation, civic duty, and faith.

With her extensive background in both entertainment and civic engagement, Turner is well-equipped to contribute to the Texas Commission on the Arts. Her appointment is sure to bring valuable insights and perspectives to further enriching Texas' vibrant arts scene.
