Governor Abbott Celebrates First Round Of TEFA Funds Awarded To Texas Families
TelAve News/10894119
~ In a recent press release, Governor Greg Abbott announced the distribution of the first round of Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) funding to over 42,000 families in Texas. The program, administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts under Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock, aims to provide parents with more flexibility in choosing the best education for their child.
Governor Abbott expressed his excitement about the impact this program will have on education in Texas. He stated, "School choice funds being distributed to Texas families paves the way for Texas to become the No. 1 state for education." He believes that these accounts will give parents the freedom to choose the best learning environment for their children, regardless of their income or location.

The TEFA program prioritizes students with disabilities and those from low-income families. It allows families to enroll their children in a school of their choice using allotted funds. These funds can also be used to cover instructional materials, educational therapies, and other necessary expenses.
Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock was praised by Governor Abbott for his work in kick-starting this program and aiding in the success of many young Texans and the future of the state. The Comptroller's office will begin notifying students in the top priority tier this week - those with qualifying disabilities in households at or below 500 percent of the federal poverty level - as well as their siblings.
The distribution of TEFA funds will continue in the coming weeks as more students are awarded these accounts. With this initiative, Governor Abbott hopes that Texas will become a leader in providing quality education options for all students.
