Governor Abbott Demands OAG Use Existing Tools To Eliminate CAIR's Operations In Texas
TelAve News/10887017
~ In a recent letter addressed to the Office of the Attorney General, Governor Greg Abbott has demanded that action be taken to strip the nonprofit status of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and its affiliates in Texas. The governor cited "voluminous documents" that detail the dangers posed by CAIR and its ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Governor Abbott emphasized that despite any attempts by CAIR to portray itself as a peaceful organization, it cannot be allowed to use its nonprofit status as a cover for sponsoring terror or promoting radical Islamism in Texas. He also called out other entities that may be using their nonprofit status as a front for supporting terrorism.

Under Texas law, the Attorney General is responsible for regulating nonprofits and has the authority to examine their records and revoke their corporate charters if they are found to be violating the law. Governor Abbott urged the Attorney General to use these tools to combat CAIR and its affiliates.
This is not the first time Governor Abbott has taken action against CAIR and its ties to terrorism. In recent years, he has called on schools to sever ties with CAIR-sponsored events, requested that CAIR's tax-exempt status be suspended by U.S. Secretary Bessent, directed criminal investigations into both CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood, designated them as foreign terrorist organizations, and ordered investigations into Sharia courts.
Governor Abbott's actions are part of his ongoing efforts to uphold the rule of law and protect Texas communities from threats posed by organizations like CAIR and their ties to terrorism. The governor's letter can be read in full on his official website.
