~ In a letter addressed to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), Governor Greg Abbott has directed the two agencies to establish a joint response team in light of the recent northward spread of the New World screwworm (NWS). The governor expressed concern over the potential threat this parasite poses to livestock and wildlife in Texas, as it has already made its way from Central America into southern Mexico.
