Governor Abbott Touts Texas Jobs Council At Teamsters Local 745

~ In a recent press conference, Governor Greg Abbott announced the creation of the new Texas Jobs Council, which aims to enhance workforce development initiatives and ensure that Texans are equipped to fill the state's growing number of high-demand jobs.
During his speech, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of Texas' role in building and manufacturing for the future of the world. He stated that in order to maintain this dominance, it is crucial for businesses and labor to work together to meet the high demand for skilled labor. The Governor also expressed his commitment to keeping Texas at the top in terms of business, job opportunities, and workforce training.
The Council's co-chairs, Teamsters Southern Region Vice President Brent Taylor and Texas Association of Business (TAB) Interim President Megan Mauro, also spoke at the event. Taylor highlighted the significance of this initiative in sending a clear message to Texans about the Governor's dedication towards expanding economic opportunities through workforce training and development. He also emphasized that the Council will play a vital role in supporting future businesses by ensuring that Texas has a skilled workforce ready to meet the needs of its diverse and growing industries.

Mauro echoed similar sentiments, stating that TAB is honored to lead the Governor's Texas Jobs Council. She stressed on the responsibility of state leaders and employers to work together in providing necessary skills and training for Texans to compete in today's economy. Mauro expressed gratitude towards Governor Abbott for initiating this important effort and assured their commitment towards keeping Texas as the best state for employers and employees.
Governor Abbott also took this opportunity to highlight some of Texas' economic achievements, including being named as number one state in America for new jobs, business expansion, and having the best business climate in the country.
The event was attended by various business and labor leaders along with Council co-chairs Taylor and Mauro. Earlier this week, Governor Abbott launched the Council with its inaugural meeting at the Governor's Mansion. The Council will present a final report in November 2026, outlining recommended executive actions and legislative proposals to strengthen Texas' workforce development system.
The Governor's office has also announced that additional photos of the event will be made available for the public. With the creation of the Texas Jobs Council, it is evident that Governor Abbott is committed to ensuring economic growth and opportunities for all Texans through effective workforce training and development.
