Governor Newsom proclaims California State Parks Week
TelAve News/10898430
~ Sacramento, CA - Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared June 10-14, 2026 as "California State Parks Week" in a proclamation issued today. This annual event celebrates the diverse wonders of California's 280 state parks and their importance in promoting climate resilience, protecting habitats, and connecting people to nature.
As home to the nation's oldest and largest state park system, California takes great pride in its natural and cultural resources that attract visitors from around the world. These parks not only offer opportunities for recreation and relaxation but also serve as important ecological functions.
In his proclamation, Governor Newsom highlighted the role of state parks in creating meaningful opportunities for all Californians to connect with nature and become stewards of our shared lands. He also emphasized the importance of access to these parks for healthy and vibrant communities.
Through initiatives such as Outdoors for All and innovative programs like the California State Park Adventure Pass, State Library Parks Pass, and Golden Bear Pass, California is working towards expanding access to nature, especially in underserved communities. The State Parks Forward initiative is also driving forward the biggest expansion of the State Park System in decades by adding 30,000 acres by 2030 and establishing three new state parks near underserved communities in the Central Valley.
