Governor Polis Celebrates Second Annual Colorado-Canada Friendship Day
TelAve News/10890572
DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis and Consul General of Canada in Denver, Sarah Quigley, came together today to celebrate the second annual Colorado-Canada Friendship Day. The event was marked by the raising of the Canadian National Flag at the Colorado State Capitol.
During the ceremony, Governor Polis expressed his excitement for this special day, stating that it is a great opportunity to recognize the importance of international collaboration and building strong cultural and economic partnerships. He also noted that while raising both the Canadian and Colorado flags together usually signifies a competitive sports game between the Rockies and Blue Jays, in this case it represents the strong partnership between Canada and Colorado.
Consul General Quigley also spoke about the deep ties and shared values between Canada and Colorado, thanking Governor Polis for his leadership and partnership on this day and every day.
The relationship between Colorado and Canada has been steadily growing since the inaugural 2025 Colorado-Canada Friendship Day. Both regions have prioritized consistent collaboration through events such as the 2025 Biennial of the Americas Summit, as well as strategic engagements through organizations like the Colorado Tourism Office and the Global Business Development Division at OEDIT (Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade). These efforts have not only strengthened their relationship but have also exceeded national trends.

Despite a 22% decline in Canadian tourism to other parts of the United States in 2025, inbound passengers from Canada to Colorado only decreased by 3%. This is a testament to the successful efforts made by both regions to maintain strong ties. In addition, Denver International Airport reported a 2% increase in airline capacity between Denver and Canada in 2026. This includes non-stop service from Regina, Saskatchewan which began in spring 2025.
Looking ahead, there are several landmark events that will further boost awareness of Colorado among international travelers, including those from Canada. These include the 2027 Sundance Film Festival in Boulder, Outside Days in Denver, and the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs. The expansion of the Michelin Guide across the entire state of Colorado will also play a significant role in attracting more visitors from Canada.
In terms of trade, Colorado exported $1.6 billion worth of goods and produce to Canada in 2025, accounting for 14% of the state's trade exports. The food sector is a major driver in this trade relationship, with a significant amount of Colorado beef being exported to Canada. This not only supports local farmers and ranchers but also contributes to the state's economy. In the same year, 183,216 visitors from Canada traveled to Colorado, providing a boost to the tourism industry and supporting small businesses.
