GWU Stands Up to Student Radicals
TelAve News/10886644
Will Not Bar Immigration Feds From Recruitment, Much Less Campus
WASHINGTON - TelAve -- In an apparent reversal of its previous policy, the George Washington University [GWU] is standing up to demands by student radicals, reports public interest law professor John Banzhaf of GWU.
GWU, which tolerated a lengthy, illegal, and widely televised encampment on its grounds by protestors who desiccated a statute of George Washington, closed down the law school, and permitted if not encouraged harassment of its Jewish students, has responded to a letter with over 1000 signatories demanding that representatives from federal immigration enforcement agencies be barred from recruiting events on campus. The answer was "no."
Other radical GWU students had demanded that GWU become a completely ICE-free campuses. More specifically they demanded that GWU - which has been labeled a "Campus Under Siege" - "Ban ICE, MPD, and all other external immigration and law enforcement from our campus and refuse these agencies access to campus without a judicial warrant." Although they were apparently unaware of it, other entities are already doing exactly that,

GWU has not even bothered to respond to this demand. Indeed, it has refused to follow the lead of many other universities which have - in a largely symbolic gesture - announced themselves to be "sanctuary campuses."
Perhaps several federal investigations, including one by a congressional committee, a law suit, charges of antisemitism, threats to cut off federal funding, and adverse publicity both here and aboard were all it took to persuade the university to stop yielding to student demands, suggests Banzhaf, who notes that GWU not only tried to appease radicals illegally occupying its campus, but actually allowed the trespassers to determine who could represent GWU at the appeasement negotiations.
