Idaho Falls: Brush Fire Prompts Railroad Shutdown Near North Haroldsen Drive
TelAve News/10896073
~ A brush fire near the railroad tracks off North Haroldsen Drive has prompted a temporary shutdown of train traffic in the area. The Idaho Falls Fire Department responded to the incident at approximately 1:50 p.m. today.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered multiple spot fires and burning debris across a dry grass area, making it difficult to access and control the blaze. The fire is believed to have been caused by sparks from metal work at the scene.
According to officials, the fire burned an estimated 150 yards in length and 800 feet in width, extending from a fence line towards the railroad tracks. Due to the presence of multiple spot fires, the total affected area is still being determined.
In response to the fire, the Idaho Falls Fire Department deployed two Type 3 brush trucks, one Type 6 brush truck, one tactical tender, three Type 1 engines and a ladder truck. Train traffic was also halted in coordination with dispatch during suppression efforts.

Thanks to their swift action, firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly and prevent any significant property damage. However, they remain on scene to monitor conditions and extinguish any remaining hot spots due to continued wind.
Idaho Falls Fire Chief Johan Olson commended his team for their coordinated response in tackling this fast-moving fire in a challenging location. He also urged residents to be cautious during these dry conditions and avoid activities that could potentially spark a fire near dry vegetation.
The department reminds everyone that increased heat, wind and dry conditions significantly increase the risk of fires. They urge residents to report any signs of fire immediately and take precautions when engaging in activities that could potentially cause sparks near dry grass.
