Idaho Falls: City Council to Hold Dec. 11 Public Hearing on Updated Impact Fee Ordinance

TelAve News/10883005
IDAHO FALLS ~ The Idaho Falls City Council is set to hold a public hearing on Thursday, December 11th at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 680 Park Ave. The purpose of the hearing is to gather feedback from the community on the draft Impact Fee Ordinance and updated Capital Improvement Plan and Development Impact Fee Study.

This hearing comes after a previous public hearing held by the Planning Commission on November 5th, where residents, developers, and other community members were given the opportunity to provide their input on the draft plan and study. The City Council will take into consideration the feedback received during this meeting as they review both the study and new impact fee ordinance.

Impact fees are crucial in funding infrastructure and public services necessary to support new development, such as parks, transportation systems, and public safety services. These fees ensure that growth pays for itself rather than placing the burden on existing taxpayers.

Idaho Falls first implemented impact fees in 2022 and state law requires that these fees be reviewed and updated every five years. By updating both the study and ordinance now, the city can ensure that its infrastructure planning and funding strategies remain accurate and effective as growth continues.

The Draft Development Impact Fee Study and Draft Impact Fee Ordinance are available for public review online prior to the hearing on the city's website. Residents are encouraged to participate in the public hearing by attending in person to provide testimony or by watching it live online.

Any updates, meeting information, or revised documents will be posted on the city's Impact Fees in Idaho Falls webpage as they become available. If approved, the new ordinance and fee schedule will go into effect in 2026.
