Idaho Falls: Crews Contain Fire at Four-Story Commercial Building Under Construction
TelAve News/10889482
~ A two-story home in Bonneville County was destroyed in a devastating fire that occurred on February 27, 2026. The Idaho Falls Fire Department responded to the scene on Saddle Horn Drive after receiving a call at 10:38 a.m.
According to reports, the fire started outside of the home and quickly spread due to strong winds. Despite the firefighters' quick response time of five minutes, the fire had already heavily advanced into the structure.
Fortunately, all residents were able to safely evacuate to a nearby vehicle while waiting for emergency responders. The family's dog was also rescued and unharmed. Four engines, three ambulances, and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene to assist with the situation.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames engulfing the back of the home and spreading up to the second floor and attic. Despite their efforts to enter and fight the fire from inside, they were forced to evacuate as conditions worsened. They then transitioned to a defensive strategy, containing the fire from outside.

Despite their efforts, the second-story roof eventually collapsed, causing extensive damage to the back of the home. The first floor, second floor, and attic were completely destroyed while the basement remained intact. The garage on the opposite side of where the fire originated was not damaged.
The total loss of damages is estimated at $400,000 and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.
The Bonneville County Sheriff's Department provided traffic control and public assistance while Rocky Mountain Power and Intermountain Gas also assisted at the scene. Chaplains were also present for support during this difficult time.
Firefighters worked tirelessly to control hot spots and salvage what remained of the structure. However, it has been deemed a total loss by authorities. Our thoughts go out to those affected by this tragic event as they begin their road towards recovery.
