~ Idaho Falls, ID - The City of Idaho Falls has been awarded the prestigious Legacy of Leaves Award by the Idaho Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA) for their outstanding use of Arbor Day grant funds during the May 2025 celebration.
The Legacy of Leaves Award is presented annually by INLA to the community that organizes the most exceptional Arbor Day event while utilizing the $300 grant provided by INLA. This award recognizes the important role that trees play in enhancing and preserving communities. The criteria for this award includes leveraging additional funds, creating a unique event, and involving local volunteers.
PJ Holm, Director of Parks and Recreation, expressed gratitude for receiving this award, stating "We are honored to be recognized with the Legacy of Leaves Award. It highlights our ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing our parks and public spaces that will benefit residents for years to come."

Last year's Arbor Day celebration in Heritage Park was a great success, with 17 new trees being planted by students from Sunnyside Elementary School and Career & Technical Education Center, along with community members and city leaders. The event focused on creating a lasting impact in the park, providing a space that will be enjoyed for generations. It also featured a swing bench dedicated to past mayors who have contributed to the community and its parks.
This celebration also marked Idaho Falls' 33rd consecutive Tree City USA Award, recognizing their dedication to urban forest management and environmental stewardship. The Arbor Day festivities were made possible thanks to the support of city staff, community partners, and volunteers.
