Washington, D.C. ~ Washington D.C. - Governor Brad Little of Idaho joined First Lady Melania Trump today at the White House for the launch of her Fostering the Future Accounts initiative. The event was also attended by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and several other governors who showed their support for this new program.

The Fostering the Future Accounts initiative aims to provide children and youth in foster care with the same opportunities as other children to build financial security and invest in their future. Governor Little expressed his pride in Idaho's support for this initiative, stating that every young person deserves the tools to succeed, achieve independence, and pursue the American Dream.

During her remarks, First Lady Melania Trump recognized Governor Little's presence and contribution to the event. She emphasized that these accounts will give foster children a chance for asset ownership and long-term wealth building, just like any other American child. She also highlighted how investing in foster youth now will not only benefit them but also strengthen America's workforce, communities, and economic future.

This is a historic measure as it is the first of its kind in the United States. The First Lady worked closely with the U.S. Department of Treasury to design this program, which has already received pledges from twenty-three governors to set up Fostering the Future Accounts for children under their state's care.

In her call for national unity, First Lady Melania Trump urged all 50 states to pledge their support for America's foster youth and help fund these accounts. She emphasized that this should not be a political issue but rather a collective effort to elevate America's children.

Thanks to her leadership and commitment, Federal guidance has been issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Office of Management and Budget allowing State child welfare agencies to open these types of accounts for any child or youth in their care.

Under this guidance, State child welfare agencies acting as guardians or their designees are now recognized as eligible individuals to open an initial account for a child in foster care. The Trump Administration will also provide guidance and a dedicated helpline to assist states in setting up these accounts.
