IEI Edge Computing Automates Environmental Control for EU Greenhouse

DRPC-242-ADL-P Delivers Real-Time Monitoring and Control in a Rugged DIN-Rail Platform
POMONA, Calif. - TelAve -- IEI Technology USA Corp. today announced that a European greenhouse operator has deployed IEI's DRPC-242-ADL-P edge computing platform to automate environmental control across its facility, replacing manual monitoring with real-time, data-driven management of temperature, humidity, light intensity, and soil moisture.
The Challenge
The operator sought to modernize its single-site facility as EU regulatory pressure around sustainability and agricultural traceability increased. Manual monitoring of growing conditions was labor-intensive and prone to inconsistency, directly affecting crop yield and quality. Existing legacy agricultural hardware lacked the connectivity needed for centralized data collection and automated control, and the greenhouse's high humidity, temperature swings, and chemical exposure demanded ruggedized computing hardware capable of continuous, unattended operation.

The Solution
IEI Technology USA Corp. deployed the DRPC-242-ADL-P as the edge intelligence hub for the greenhouse's environmental control system, integrating real-time data from a sensor network to automate control across the facility. The operator selected the platform for its ruggedized DIN-Rail design, suited to direct installation in electrical cabinets; rich I/O connectivity, including USB 3.2, 2.5GbE LAN, and multiple COM ports, for integration with both legacy and modern agricultural hardware; and high-performance Intel Core processors delivering the low-latency computing required for concurrent data ingestion and control logic.
Results
The deployment replaced manual checks with automated, real-time environmental monitoring, reducing labor requirements and human error. Growing conditions remained consistent throughout the facility, supporting improved crop yield and quality. Integration with the operator's existing agricultural hardware minimized deployment time and infrastructure cost, while the platform's ruggedized design ensured reliable operation in demanding greenhouse conditions.
