Classic Country TV builds a documentary-style home for the artists and history mainstream country has left behind

WACO, Texas — September 21, 2026 — As classic and outlaw country's presence in mainstream media and terrestrial radio continues to shrink, an independent Central Texas media project is working to make sure the genre's history stays easy to find. Classic Country TV, founded by Michael Whitehead, has spent the past year building a documentary-style library dedicated to the artists who shaped classic and outlaw country music.

Built around the tagline "Classic Country. No Apologies.", Classic Country TV publishes artist profiles, archival features, and video content covering foundational figures including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, George Jones, David Allan Coe, and Tammy Wynette. The project spans YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and its own site, alongside a members' newsletter, The Outlaw Circle.

"Every one of these artists shaped what country music became, but a lot of that history just isn't being kept anywhere accessible," Michael said. "That's really what this project is about — making sure classic and outlaw country's story doesn't just fade out as it drifts further from the mainstream."

Interest in the genre's roots has grown among longtime fans and newer listeners discovering it online, even as classic and outlaw country get less airtime in mainstream coverage. Classic Country TV has positioned itself to fill that gap, publishing new content weekly and building out an expanding archive that fans can return to as a dedicated home for the music's history.

Michael said the goal is to keep growing that archive one artist at a time, giving classic and outlaw country fans a place built specifically for them rather than scattered pieces spread across the wider internet.
