Jeff Brown on Grief, Humour and Learning to Live After the Loss of a Child
TelAve News/10891678
The release of new podcast episode of Spots of Time, hosted by Angela Kanwar, featuring charity advocate Jeff Brown, who speaks with honesty, warmth and humour about the life of his daughter Keira, the impact of losing her to cancer.
TWICKENHAM, U.K. - TelAve -- A former member of the Royal Air Force, Geoff went on to build a varied career that included work in brewing, commercial radio, hospital radio and the BBC World Service, while continuing a lifelong passion for broadcasting. Family life was happy, active and full of humour.
That changed in 2006, when Keira was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare cancer in her chest.
What followed was a long period of treatment, hope, and togetherness as a family unit determined to stay positive. Jeff describes Keira as a fighter, surrounded by friends, school support and a close network of people who rallied around them.
But just two weeks before she died, the family were told the cancer had spread to her brain and that her prognosis was terminal.

In the episode, Jeff speaks candidly about the reality of losing a child and how grief turns life "on its head."
He explains that while both he and his wife were devastated, they processed the loss in very different ways. Jeff found that talking about Keira, speaking openly, and acknowledging the reality of what had happened became his way of coping. His wife, by contrast, carried much of her grief internally for a long time.
Jeff is clear that grief is not something you "get over."
Instead, he describes it as something time helps you manage — like an ointment that soothes but never fully removes the pain. Even now, Keira remains part of everyday conversation in their home, frozen in time in some ways, but still deeply present in memory, language and family life.
The Spots of Time podcast episode is released on Thursday 26th March.
