JoinRCMP.ca Releases New Guide Explaining RCMP Career Paths After Depot Graduation
TelAve News/10896227
New resource explains RCMP first postings, probation, relocation, field coaching, and specialized policing opportunities after Depot graduation.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - TelAve -- VANCOUVER, British Columbia — JoinRCMP.ca has released a new guide explaining what happens after cadets graduate from Depot Division, the RCMP's national training academy in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The new "After Depot & Career Paths" guide gives prospective applicants a clearer understanding of RCMP life after training, including first postings, field coaching, probation, relocation, and long-term career specialization opportunities.
According to the guide, most new RCMP officers begin their careers in General Duty policing roles after completing the 26-week Cadet Training Program. Graduates are typically posted to detachments across contract provinces and territories, where they gain frontline policing experience under the supervision of experienced members.
The resource explains that cadets usually learn their first posting during training at Depot and that assignments are based primarily on operational needs. The guide also addresses one of the biggest concerns among applicants: relocation. It outlines how the RCMP supports graduates moving to their first detachment and explains the realities of serving in rural, northern, and remote communities.

JoinRCMP.ca also highlights the RCMP's field coaching and probation process, where new constables continue developing operational skills after graduation. The guide notes that General Duty policing acts as the foundation for nearly all future RCMP opportunities.
A major section of the guide focuses on specialized RCMP career paths available later in an officer's career. These include major crimes, federal policing, emergency response teams, police dog services, cybercrime, intelligence, forensic identification, Indigenous policing, and other specialized units across Canada.
The guide emphasizes that career progression within the RCMP is shaped by operational experience, performance, mobility, and willingness to relocate when opportunities arise.
"Many applicants focus heavily on getting into Depot, but fewer understand what comes afterward," said Emily Clarke, Communications Specialist at JoinRCMP.ca. "We created this guide to help applicants understand the full RCMP career journey — from first posting through long-term specialization opportunities."
The After Depot & Career Paths guide is part of JoinRCMP.ca's growing collection of independent RCMP recruitment resources covering eligibility requirements, Depot life, fitness standards, the application process, and RCMP careers.
