Kilpack's Dark Fantasy Rilari Receives The BookFest Award

TelAve News/10899120
WEST JORDAN, Utah - TelAve -- The BookFest announced the winners of its semiannual BookFest Awards, recognizing outstanding works of fiction and nonfiction. Among the honorees was Utahn W.D. Kilpack III for Rilari: Book Four of New Blood in the Dark Fantasy category.

Kilpack said, "I'm deeply humbled that Rilari received a BookFest Award. It was a challenging book to write, part of a long, demanding journey. I write these stories for the readers who invest in them, and it's rewarding to know the book continues to connect with people."

BookFest Founder Desireé Duffy said, "The BookFest honors authors who create outstanding works of fiction and nonfiction. The BookFest's mission is rooted in literature having transformative power and in a desire to support and celebrate those whose books transport us to different worlds, offer new adventures, and allow us to reflect on our own lives while fostering empathy. Celebrating authors elevates literature and, in turn, elevates ourselves."

Rilari is the fourth book in Kilpack's planned eight‑book New Blood Saga, centered on Natharr, the Guardian of Maarihk. As one in a long line of protectors dating back to the Firstborn Age, Natharr's Firstblood grants him the Sight — an ability to perceive what may come to pass and determine what can or cannot be changed. In Rilari, the Guardian's absence has allowed the Usurper's influence to spread beyond the Gulf of Braag, fueling unrest and hatred toward all things Maarihkish. Natharr and the Rilari confront malice, ancient consequences, and the far‑reaching schemes of the Usurper's vizier. Meanwhile, Nathan and Bu rely on the teachings of Natharr and Quiet One as they navigate the Maarihk Empire. His skill with a sword marks only the beginning of a perilous journey, paralleling Darshelle's flight from the animus of the ancient wood.

This BookFest Award is the fourth honor for Rilari and the fifty‑third book award Kilpack has received. BooksShelf.com praised the novel, calling it "a triumph, offering an enthralling adventure filled with courage and the enduring spirit of humanity."
