For every problem I point out, I tried—and I think succeeded— to offer practical no-nonsense solutions that didn't require the intervention of an expensive consultant," he explains.

The book tackles safety holistically, dealing with issues as diverse as leadership, process capability, accountability, competency, and employee engagement; all elements of a well-run, and thus safer company.

The book is surprisingly in-depth and draws on La Duke's extensive experience in leadership development and Organizational Development (OD) and while his depth of knowledge of the topics is clear, the book never strays into academic theory and instead stays firmly grounded in the reality of the work world.
