Lane shifts and closures to affect several Columbia streets, May 4-5
TelAve News/10894955
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia residents should be aware of upcoming road work that will affect traffic on multiple streets in the city. According to a press release from the City of Columbia Public Works department, Engineering Surveys and Services will be conducting pavement testing on East Green Meadows Road and Veterans United Parkway on May 4-5, 2026.
This work is part of preparations for a future capital improvement project, with construction expected to take place in 2027-28. The testing will begin at 5:30 a.m. and end at 7 p.m. each day. During this time, driving lanes will be shifted to allow traffic to use center turn lanes while the testing is being conducted.
Drivers are advised to use caution in the area and watch out for workers and equipment. The City of Columbia urges residents to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time during these two days.

In addition, there will be a closure on East Walnut Street on May 5 starting at 7 a.m. Budrovich Crane will be closing this street between North Sixth and North Seventh streets in order to place a rooftop air conditioning unit on the Columbia Police Department building.
The south sidewalk on this block of East Walnut Street will also be closed, with pedestrians being directed to safe crossing points. Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers, and temporary no-parking zones will be posted within the closure area as needed.
Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by 3 p.m. Residents are advised to plan their travels accordingly and use alternate routes if possible. The City of Columbia thanks everyone for their patience during these necessary road works.
