LG Energy Solution-Honda EV Battery Plant in Ohio Takes "Leap" Forward as Final Structural Beam Marks Major Construction Milestone
TelAve News/10821070
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio, Feb. 29, 2024 ~ On Leap Day, LG Energy Solution and Honda celebrated a major construction milestone at their joint venture's new EV battery production facility near Jeffersonville, Ohio. The final structural steel beam was erected, marking the completion of the building's framework. This achievement comes exactly one year after the groundbreaking ceremony for the over 2 million square feet facility, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
The joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Honda is projected to have an overall investment of $4.4 billion and create approximately 2,200 new jobs. The facility aims to start mass production of pouch-type lithium-ion batteries in 2025, which will be supplied to Honda auto plants for the production of electric vehicles (EVs) to be sold in North America.
Bob Lee, CEO of the LG Energy Solution-Honda joint venture, expressed his excitement about reaching this important milestone. He stated, "Today is an important day for our team as we see the final shape of our EV battery production facility taking form. Just one year ago, we were breaking ground on an empty field and now we can see the finish line for this project. We are grateful to everyone working at the site and the local community for making this possible."

In addition to making progress on construction, hiring is also underway for various positions at the plant. Currently, there are openings for engineering and support roles on the company's website. Information about technician and production positions will be announced in the coming months.
Rick Riggle, COO of the joint venture company, expressed his enthusiasm about assembling a new team for the EV battery facility. He said, "This is an exciting moment as we take our first steps towards building our team for this joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Honda. We will continue to announce new career opportunities in the coming months that we hope will inspire the next-generation workforce to get involved in advanced manufacturing roles. These roles will be crucial in producing lithium-ion batteries that will power the Acura and Honda EV models, which are set to go into production in Ohio in late 2025."

Starting March 11, individuals can also visit the OhioMeansJobs Fayette County Recruitment Center at Destination Outlets located at Suite 8120 Factory Shops Blvd. in Jeffersonville.
It is worth noting that the production of lithium-ion batteries will use both domestic and globally sourced parts. This joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Honda is a significant step towards advancing EV technology and creating job opportunities in the United States.
