Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is proud to announce the continuation of their long-standing partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service Program. For the 45th consecutive year, PRM will offer free, nutritious meals to children and youth in Long Beach over the summer months.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, providing access to healthy meals for children during the summer break has been a top priority for the city for over four decades. "The Summer Food Service Program not only helps combat food insecurity but also promotes healthy eating habits among our youth," said Mayor Richardson.
Starting on Monday, June 17 and running through Friday, August 23, PRM will provide free meals Monday through Friday at various locations throughout Long Beach and Signal Hill. Meal times will vary at each site between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., with the exception of holidays on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, July 4. The program is open to all children and youth between the ages of 1 and 18 years old. However, infant meals will not be provided. The meals will consist of well-balanced options including milk, juice, fruits, and vegetables. No registration is required; eligible youth can simply show up at a participating location during designated meal times.

The program is funded by the USDA and administered by the California Department of Education.
In addition to the Summer Food Service Program, Long Beach has also announced its Summer of Opportunity initiative, which aims to support positive development among local youth while addressing youth violence. The city has released a calendar of summer activities for children and teens, which can be found on their website.
The City of Long Beach is committed to providing nutritious meals and opportunities for growth and development for its youth during the summer months. With the continuation of the Summer Food Service Program and the implementation of the Summer of Opportunity initiative, Long Beach is taking proactive steps towards creating a healthier and safer community for its young residents.
