Long Beach, CA ~ As National Bike Month approaches, the City of Long Beach is gearing up to celebrate this annual event with a variety of bike-related activities and events. The city, along with local community groups and neighborhoods across the country, recognizes the importance of bicycling as a fun, healthy, and sustainable mode of transportation.

Residents of all ages are invited to participate in the month-long celebration, which aims to promote safe riding and encourage people to explore Long Beach on two wheels. Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for National Bike Month, stating that it is a great opportunity for residents to get outdoors, stay active, and discover all that Long Beach has to offer.

With over 150 miles of bikeways already in place, Long Beach makes it easy for everyone to ride not just during National Bike Month but throughout the year. From scenic rides along the San Gabriel River Trail to quick trips using the city's Bike Share program, there are options for riders of all ages and skill levels. And with plans to expand the network to 300 miles by 2040, the city is committed to making bicycling a convenient and everyday way to get around.

National Bike Month offers something for everyone – whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting out. Some of the highlighted events include Moonlight Mash hosted by Pedal Movement on May 1st and May 30th at 8 p.m., where participants can enjoy a fun 9-mile social bike ride through Long Beach followed by a beach hangout. On May 2nd at 9 a.m., residents can drop off gently used non-motorized bicycles at four local parks as part of Recycle Your Bicycle event.

For those who enjoy metal music while biking, Moonlight Mash has teamed up with ISM Brewing for Pedal to the Metal May Ride on May 5th at 6:30 p.m., taking riders through iconic spots in Long Beach. On May 15th from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Walk and Roll and DLBA will be hosting a pop-up event at Harvey Milk Promenade during National Bike to Work Week, offering free bike safety gear and light refreshments for morning commuters.

On May 16th at 10 a.m., the MacArthur Park Community Bike Ride will take place, covering four miles and passing by four Long Beach parks. This ride is designed for riders of all ages and skill levels. Families can also join in on the fun with Kidical Mass on May 17th at 11 a.m., starting at Pixie Toys and covering 4 to 4.5 miles through the Bixby Knolls neighborhood.

For those curious about e-bikes, there will be an E-bike Demo Day on May 30th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at La Verne Parking Lot, where attendees can test ride e-bikes and enjoy a day in Long Beach with their families.
