Longhua Supplies Direct Air Cooled Condenser for 100 MW Jixi Solar Thermal Project
TelAve News/10909182
LUOYANG, China - TelAve -- The 100 MW molten salt tower concentrated solar power (CSP) project at CGN New Energy Jixi Base entered commercial operation. POWERCHINA Zhongnan Engineering Corporation undertook the EPC work. Longhua Technology Group (Luoyang) Co., Ltd. independently developed and supplied the project's core direct air cooled condenser system, which supports steam condensation and stable power generation at the plant.
A High Latitude CSP Project in Northeast China
Longhua describes the facility as Northeast China's first CSP station and the world's highest latitude molten salt tower solar thermal project. The plant offers an engineering reference for renewable energy development in high latitude, severely cold regions.
Located at 45.36° north latitude, the project faces demanding operating conditions. Longhua's project brief cites temperatures as low as −37.3°C, frequent Grade 9 winds, saline alkali corrosion and windblown sand. These conditions can affect heat exchange, increase freezing risk and place heavy demands on the condenser's structural stability and durability.

Condenser Design for Cold and Windy Conditions
To address those site conditions, Longhua carried out targeted research and development and optimized the equipment structure, heat exchange layout and core manufacturing processes. The design focuses on cold resistance, wind resistance, corrosion resistance and dependable operation across seasonal temperature changes.
Its integrated temperature control and anti freezing design is intended to support efficient heat exchange in summer and protect equipment during extremely cold winters. An optimized wind resistant structure and heat exchange layout are designed to reduce the effects of strong winds on equipment stability and cooling performance.
Air Cooling Reduces Cooling Water Demand
Longhua's system uses ambient air for heat exchange rather than relying on large volumes of cooling water. In a direct ACC cooling system, turbine exhaust steam is condensed and the resulting water returns to the plant's steam cycle. This approach aligns with the project's need for power generation equipment suited to challenging climate and water conditions.

An Application Reference for Solar Thermal Projects
The Jixi plant's commercial operation marks a practical application of Longhua's direct air cooled condenser technology at a 100 MW solar thermal facility. The company says its tailored design brings together water conservation, temperature control and weather resistance for the site.
The project provides a reference for developers assessing condenser systems for CSP plants in cold, windy or saline alkali regions. Long term operating data will further show how the equipment performs across seasons and changing site conditions.
