Longtime Idaho Falls basketball instructor retiring after more than 25 years with the city

IDAHO FALLS ~ After more than 25 years of dedicated service, Cleave Lewis is retiring from his position at the City of Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Department. Lewis, a well-known figure in the community, will be leaving his role behind the front desk on May 30. To celebrate his retirement, an open house will be held that afternoon.
Lewis has been a familiar face at the Recreation Center, not only for his work but also for his involvement as a basketball instructor. A graduate of Skyline High School and former professional basketball player, Lewis was part of the 1983 National Invitation Tournament championship team. He even had the opportunity to play against future NBA stars such as Hakeem Olajuwon and Karl Malone.
After his playing career, Lewis returned to Idaho Falls and became an integral part of the Recreation Center. He has been teaching basketball skills classes, leading summer camps, and supporting local athletes for decades. His influence has played a significant role in shaping the growth of youth basketball in the region.

Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Director PJ Holm spoke highly of Lewis, stating that he has been a steady and positive presence at the Rec Center for many years. Holm also praised Lewis for mentoring generations of local athletes and sharing his love for the game. He described Lewis as a respected colleague, parent figure, and player among colleagues, parents, and players alike. Holm expressed gratitude for Lewis' contributions to the community through his quiet leadership and dedication.
To honor Lewis' retirement, an open house will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 30 at the Idaho Falls Recreation Center located at 520 Memorial Dr in Idaho Falls. Everyone who has worked with or been taught by Lewis is encouraged to attend and wish him well as he embarks on this new chapter in life.
