SAN DIEGO - TelAve -- SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — Children's author Marissa Goodbody invites young readers on a globe-trotting adventure in The Sloth, the Shrew, and the Cockatoo, a rhyming picture book filled with travel, humor, friendship, and discovery.

The story begins in the tropical forests of Peru, where a sloth and a shrew decide they are ready to try something new. With no money for an adventure, they take jobs aboard a ship and soon find themselves far from home.

Their journey brings them to Honolulu, where they meet a cockatoo who joins the adventure. Together, the three friends surf, snorkel, dance the hula, paddle canoes, and hike a volcano.

From there, they travel to Hong Kong and China, where they learn kung fu, visit the Great Wall, sample new foods, and explore the Beijing Zoo. Their next stop is Paris, where they visit the Louvre, climb the Eiffel Tower, enjoy chocolate and fondue, and take in the sights.

After all the excitement, the friends begin to realize that adventure is not the only thing that matters. No matter how many new places they see, they still miss the place where their journey began.

"I wanted the story to feel like a big adventure for little readers," said Goodbody. "The characters get to experience new places, try new things, and meet new friends, but they also learn that sometimes what you're searching for is something you already had waiting for you at home."

Through playful rhyme and imaginative travel, The Sloth, the Shrew, and the Cockatoo introduces young readers to different places and cultures while exploring friendship, curiosity, and the comfort of home.

The story closes where it began, with the friends returning to Peru and taking in the view from Machu Picchu.
