Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Carroll County
TelAve News/10873855
ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 29, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in certain areas due to concerns over potential mosquito-borne diseases. In cooperation with the Carroll County Health Department, MDA will be conducting Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying in the zip code of Westminster, 21158 on the evening of Friday, August 29, 2025.
The spraying will take place after 7:30 p.m. and in the event of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled for the next available evening. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended during this time.
MDA's Mosquito Control Program personnel will be using a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs. This solution is deemed safe for human health, but as a precautionary measure, MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA advises residents to take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), and regularly cleaning bird baths and pet food/water bowls.
Additionally, residents are encouraged to install and inspect window and door screens in their homes and stables and remove or empty any water-holding containers on their property.
To stay updated on any unscheduled spray events or other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland, MDA urges all residents to follow their Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules can also be found on the program's website by county.
For more information or questions about the Mosquito Control Program, individuals can contact MDA at 410-841-5870 or via email at mosquito.control@maryland.gov. The department is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Marylanders and will continue to monitor and address any potential threats from mosquito-borne diseases.
