Maryland: PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity in Prince George's County
TelAve News/10873736
ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 25, 2025) ~ Annapolis, MD - The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Prince George's County Health Department, has announced plans to expand mosquito control services in response to a public health concern over the potential spread of mosquito-borne diseases. As part of these efforts, Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying will take place on the evening of Tuesday, August 26, 2025 in the City of Bowie.
The targeted area for spraying is within a ¾ mile radius of Laurel Bowie Road and Old Chapel Road. Spraying will commence after 7:30 p.m., with a contingency plan in place for inclement weather. Any existing spray exemptions in the designated area will be temporarily suspended during this time.
To combat adult mosquitoes, personnel from MDA's Mosquito Control Program will utilize a permethrin-based solution that has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for use in public health mosquito control programs. While this solution poses no unreasonable risks to human health, MDA advises residents to avoid outdoor activities during spraying as a precautionary measure.

While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA recommends that residents take necessary precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include wearing long, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, using insect repellents according to product labels, avoiding mosquito-infested areas during peak activity times (dusk and dawn), and ensuring that window and door screens are properly installed and maintained.
Additionally, residents are advised to regularly clean bird baths and pet food/water bowls and remove or empty any water-holding containers on their property. To stay informed about unscheduled spray events and other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland, individuals are encouraged to follow MDA's Facebook page @MdAgDept. Routine spray program schedules can also be found on the program's website by county.
For more information about the upcoming spraying or general inquiries about MDA's Mosquito Control Program, please contact 410-841-5870. The department remains committed to protecting the health and well-being of all Marylanders through proactive mosquito control measures.
