CHICAGO ~ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) have announced the winners of the fourth annual "You Name a Snowplow" contest. The contest, which allows Chicago residents to submit and vote on names for the city's snowplows, received a record-breaking number of entries and votes this year.
On February 1, the City released a list of 25 finalists from the initial pool of names submitted by Chicagoans. Residents were then able to vote for up to six names until midnight on February 14. After tallying the votes, six names emerged as the winners:
- Abolish ICE
- Stephen Coldbert
- Pope Frío XIV
- The Blizzard of Oz
- Svencoolie
- Caleb Chilliams
Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed his gratitude for the community's participation in the contest, stating, "I want to thank the people of Chicago for their unmatched creativity, sense of humor, and civic pride." He also encouraged residents to continue engaging with local government and utilizing available resources through 311.

This year's contest saw a record number of entries (13,300) and voters (39,000). One entry in particular, "Chance the Scraper," received honorable mention for finishing just .24% out of the top six.
The residents who first submitted the winning names will be offered a photo opportunity with their named snowplow in the coming weeks. They will also receive city swag as a token of appreciation.
DSS is responsible for managing over 9,400 lane miles of roadway in Chicago. They have a fleet of over 300 salt spreaders ready to respond when needed and more than 400,000 tons of salt stationed at various locations throughout the city. Residents can track the City's full snow fleet in real-time during winter storms using the City's plow tracker.
As winter comes to an end, Mayor Johnson and DSS are grateful for the community's involvement in naming the city's snowplows and ensuring that Chicago's streets are kept safe and clear during the winter months.
