Mesa District 1 Councilmember Mark Freeman Elected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors

~ Mesa, AZ Councilmember Mark Freeman has been elected to the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors. The election took place at the NLC's 2023 City Summit in Atlanta, GA. Freeman will serve a one-year term and provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC's federal advocacy, governance, and membership activities.
Freeman expressed his excitement for the opportunity to represent Mesa on a national level. "As a councilmember in Mesa, being part of the National League of Cities' board of directors is crucial not just for personal growth but also for the benefit of our community," he said. "This platform offers an invaluable opportunity to collaborate, share insights, and advocate for policies directly impacting Mesa's residents, ensuring their voices will be heard nationally."

The NLC Board of Directors is selected by a 15-member nominating committee and confirmed by a vote from NLC's membership at the organization's annual business meeting. As a board member, Freeman will meet in March, June and November to guide NLC's strategic direction.
NLC President David Sander expressed his enthusiasm for working with Freeman and other board members to elevate the voices and priorities of cities across America. "The National League of Cities Board of Directors plays an essential role in guiding our organization's priorities and programming," said Sander. "I look forward to working closely together with this remarkable group of leaders over this next very important year."
At the City Summit in Atlanta, more than 3,000 mayors, councilmembers, and delegates from nearly every state and the District of Columbia convened to discuss pressing challenges facing municipalities nationwide. Local leaders are working hard to pioneer innovative solutions that move cities forward.
