Mesa Kicks Off Water Awareness Month with Conservation Challenge and Community Programs
TelAve News/10892848
~ Mesa, AZ - The City of Mesa has joined forces with the Arizona Department of Water Resources and water providers across the state to celebrate April as Water Awareness Month (WAM). This annual event, established in 2008, aims to promote a culture of conservation and raise awareness about the importance of protecting Arizona's water resources, economy, and quality of life.
Mayor Mark Freeman of Mesa emphasized the significance of this month-long celebration, stating that "water is one of Mesa's most valuable resources" and that every resident has a role to play in preserving it. He encouraged residents to take part in the Wyland National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation and embrace simple, everyday water-wise habits to ensure a sustainable future for Mesa.
As part of the WAM festivities, the City of Mesa is offering various opportunities for residents and businesses to get involved. One such opportunity is the Mayor's Water Conservation Pledge, which aims to reclaim Mesa's title as the "Most Water-Wise City" by competing with other cities across the country. Participants can win daily prizes and a grand prize of $3,000 towards home utilities by taking the pledge at mywaterpledge.com.

The Wyland National Mayor's Challenge is sponsored by the Wyland Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by environmental artist Wyland in 1993. The foundation focuses on educating millions of students each year about oceans, rivers, lakes, streams, and wetlands.
Additionally, Mesa has increased its residential incentive for new grass conversion projects up to $4,200 with support from sponsors Google and SRP. Interested residents can learn more about this incentive and apply at mesaaz.gov/Xeriscape.
For those looking to better understand their monthly water usage and identify opportunities for conservation based on their home and landscape, Mesa offers "Your Water. Your Impact." This program follows a simple three-step process - Know, Compare, Save - and eligible customers may receive a free water conservation kit upon completion.
