A pre ~ As the summer heat begins to rise, residents of Mesa can look forward to cooling off at their local pools. The City of Mesa has announced that all eight of its public aquatic facilities will be opening for the season on Saturday, May 23. To celebrate the start of the season, all pools will have special grand opening hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on that day.

But before the official opening, a pre-season soft opening will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at all pool locations. This will give residents a chance to get a sneak peek and enjoy some early summer fun.

Each of Mesa's aquatic facilities offers a variety of activities for all ages, including lap swimming, recreational swimming, water features, and family-friendly amenities. The locations include Brimhall Aquatic Complex on 5035 E. Southern Ave., Carson Aquatic Complex on 605 N. Westwood, Kino Aquatic Center on 848 N. Horne, Mesa Aquatic Complex on 1630 E. Southern Ave., Rhodes Aquatic Complex (home to the popular FlowRider) on 1860 S. Longmore, Shepherd Aquatic Complex on 1511 N. Alta Mesa Dr., Skyline Aquatic Center on 845 S. Crismon Rd., and Stapley Aquatic Complex on 3250 E. Hermosa Vista.

During the week, all pools will open for public swimming at 1 p.m., with varying hours on Saturdays (10 a.m.-2 p.m or 1 p.m.-5 p.m.) depending on the location. Skyline and Rhodes will also be open for public swim on Sundays.

For specific pool hours throughout the season, residents can visit the Aquatics page of the City of Mesa website.

All eight aquatic facilities will be open daily from May 23 through July 18. After that, Mesa Aquatic Complex, Stapley Aquatic Complex, and Brimhall Aquatic Complex will continue daily operations until July 25. Skyline Aquatic Center and Rhodes Aquatic Complex will remain open daily through July 25 and weekends through Sunday, Sept. 6.

On Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, all pools will be open for public swim. However, they will be closed on Labor Day.

Daily admission fees for the pools are $3 for youth 17 and under, $5 for adults, $4 for seniors 55 and older, and free for infants. For those looking to ride the FlowRider at Rhodes Aquatic Complex, rates are $12 for youth and $16 for adults for a one-hour ride with the fence in place. Without the fence, rates increase to $14 and $22 respectively. Additionally, there will be no fence Flow sessions offered on Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting May 23.

For those planning to visit the pools frequently throughout the summer season, discounted season pool passes are available until May 23. A household pass (for up to six members) costs $150 with each additional household member costing an extra $25. An individual pass is priced at $45. After May 23, season pass rates increase to $225 for a household pass, with each additional member costing $30, and an individual pass costing $56.

Season pool passes include unlimited visits to all City of Mesa pools throughout the summer season. They can be purchased online or in person at the Mesa Parks and Recreation Office located at 708 W. Baseline Road from Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

With all City of Mesa pools opening soon and offering a variety of activities and amenities throughout the summer season, residents can look forward to staying cool while having fun with family and friends.
