TelAve News/10885971
~ Mesa, AZ- The City of Mesa has been awarded a generous $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program to enhance safety measures at some of its busiest intersections. This funding will support the city's SafeTurn Initiative, which aims to reduce serious crashes at eight high-risk intersections.
The project will include various improvements such as upgrading traffic signals with protected-only left-turn green arrows, high-visibility crosswalks, ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, and new traffic cameras and sensors. These enhancements will be implemented at the following intersections: Brown Road at Gilbert Road, Higley Road and Val Vista Drive; University Drive at Lindsay Road and Higley Road; McKellips Road and Recker Road; Broadway Road and Lindsay Road; and Baseline Road and Ellsworth Road.

Mesa's goal is to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by 30% by 2030. These efforts align with this goal and demonstrate the city's commitment to ensuring the safety of its residents on the roadways. The project is expected to begin soon with completion estimated within the next year.
