Naperville: Plainfield Man Charged with Hate Crime for Allegedly Yelling Racial Slur at Nine-Year-Old Boy
TelAve News/10898797
~ A Plainfield man has been charged with a hate crime after allegedly yelling a racial slur at a nine-year-old boy, pushing him, and throwing his bike. The incident occurred on June 13, 2026, in the area of 1400 W. Jefferson Avenue in Naperville.
According to authorities, the victim and some friends were building a fort down the street when a girl, later identified as the girlfriend's daughter of the accused, damaged their fort. The victim then went to the girl's residence to confront her about the damage. It is alleged that Jeffrey Feigenbaum, 29, exited the residence and began yelling racial slurs at the boy before pushing him and throwing his bike as he ran away.
Feigenbaum appeared in First Appearance Court on Sunday where he was charged with two counts of Hate Crime (Class 4 Felony), one count of Misdemeanor Battery, and one count of Disorderly Conduct. However, the State's motion to detain Feigenbaum pre-trial was denied by the court. He was released from custody with conditions including wearing a GPS monitoring device, staying at least five thousand feet away from the victim's residence and school, and surrendering all firearms and dangerous weapons to the Naperville Police Department.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin expressed his concern over the allegations against Feigenbaum stating that hate crimes have no place in society. He also commended the Naperville Police Department for their assistance in securing charges against Feigenbaum.
Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres also condemned Feigenbaum's actions stating that every person has the right to live free from intimidation and hate. He praised his officers for their thorough investigation into the incident and thanked State's Attorney Berlin for his partnership in holding individuals accountable for hate-motivated crimes.
Feigenbaum is scheduled to appear in court again on July 13, 2026, in front of Judge Daniel Guerin. It is important to note that the charges against Feigenbaum are only allegations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The public is reminded that this complaint only contains charges and is not proof of the defendant's guilt. It is the government's burden to prove Feigenbaum's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a fair trial.
