Naperville Police Arrest Plainfield Convicted Felon Allegedly in Possession of a Loaded Gun
TelAve News/10885714
~ Naperville, IL- On Tuesday, January 10th, 2026, Naperville police officers on patrol observed a vehicle making a right-hand turn onto Route 59 and crossing over to the far left through lane. The officers pulled next to the vehicle at a stop and noticed that they could not see a silhouette of the driver due to what they believed were illegal window tints. This led them to conduct a traffic stop.
Upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with the driver, later identified as Deion Kidd, officers observed a clear cup on the floorboard that contained a clear liquid. Based on Kidd's sudden movements towards the glovebox and rear passenger floorboard, officers asked him to exit the vehicle. It is alleged that during this time, Kidd resisted officers' attempts to search the glovebox.
After placing Kidd in handcuffs, officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found a loaded Glock 46 in the glovebox. They also discovered a bottle of tequila in the trunk accessible from the back seat. Further investigation revealed that Kidd is a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.

As a result of these findings, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced today that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted their motion to deny pre-trial release for Kidd. He appeared in First Appearance Court this morning facing charges of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon – Previous Felony Conviction (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony), as well as multiple misdemeanor and petty offenses including Resisting a Police Officer and Transportation or Possession of Open Alcohol by Driver.
State's Attorney Berlin emphasized his commitment to public safety stating, "As a convicted felon, Mr. Kidd has forfeited his right to lawfully possess a firearm." He commended the Naperville Police Department for their efforts in removing a loaded gun from the streets and thanked Assistant State's Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Jennifer Nielsen for securing charges against Kidd.
Chief Arres also praised the officers' proactive efforts in enforcing traffic and other laws, stating, "Once again, our officers' proactive efforts to enforce traffic and other laws has led to the arrest of a convicted felon allegedly in possession of a firearm." He expressed his gratitude towards State's Attorney Berlin and his office for prosecuting cases like this to the fullest extent possible.
Kidd's next court appearance is scheduled for February 2nd, 2026, in front of Judge Mia McPherson. The public is reminded that these charges are only allegations and that Kidd is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
