NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On Tuesday, July 29 at 8:24 p.m., the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call reporting smoke coming from the roof of a two-story residential building on Frances Court. In response, ECC immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment to the reported location. This assignment included three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders.

Upon arrival at 8:30 p.m., Naperville Engine 3 reported heavy smoke showing from the roof of the building. The engine companies conducted a thorough survey of the structure and made entry into the home. Inside, they found heavy smoke on the first floor and quickly established command with the first arriving fire companies. An aggressive interior attack was initiated to combat the fire.

As they continued their efforts, firefighters discovered that the fire had spread to both the first and second floors of the home. The situation was further complicated by a large hole that had burned through the floor of the second floor due to intense flames. Due to these challenging conditions and extreme heat, an elevated alarm was issued.

Despite these obstacles, Naperville Fire Department personnel were able to contain and extinguish most of the fire within 60 minutes of receiving the initial call. However, they remained on scene for an additional three hours to conduct overhaul and salvage operations as well as cool any remaining hot spots in the home. Fortunately, it was confirmed through primary and secondary searches that no one was inside at the time of the incident.

The following morning at 6:14 a.m., another call was received by ECC from a passerby reporting light smoke coming from the same address. Fire companies were once again dispatched to investigate and found a small amount of smoke and heat in the roof area of the home. NFD companies quickly took action by stretching a hose line to soak down this area.

Assisting on scene were the Naperville Police Department and various city departments including Transportation and Engineering, Electric, and NICOR. Additionally, the Wheaton Fire Department, Warrenville Fire Protection District, and Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District provided support. Station coverage was provided by the Plainfield Fire Protection District, Bolingbrook Fire Department, and Oswego Fire Protection District.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department's investigations team. Initial estimates place damages to the home at $100,000. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters as a result of this incident. However, due to the extent of damage, the building has been deemed uninhabitable.

The Naperville community is grateful for the swift response and efforts of all involved in containing this fire. The NFD reminds residents to always be vigilant in fire safety measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
