Naperville: Structure Fire in the 200 Block of South Columbia St.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call at 3:22 a.m. on Friday (7/18/2025) reporting a possible fire in the attic of a single-family residence located in the 200 block of South Columbia St. The ECC immediately dispatched a General Alarm assignment, consisting of 24 personnel, to the reported location.
Upon arrival at 3:35 a.m., Naperville Engine Company 1 reported no visible signs of fire, but detected a burning smell in the area. The first-arriving companies conducted a thorough survey of the structure and provided an on-scene report before establishing command and beginning their investigation. Engine 1 entered the residence and discovered a working fire in the unfinished attic.
The Fire Department quickly initiated suppression efforts, deploying a hose line to contain and extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arrival. Firefighters remained on the scene for an additional 90 minutes to assist with recovering belongings and conducting overhaul operations.

Assisting agencies included the Naperville Police Department and the City of Naperville's Transportation and Engineering Department. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and has been deemed undetermined at this time. The estimated damages to the residence are approximately $75,000.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters as a result of this incident. However, due to the extent of damage caused by the fire, three occupants who were home at the time have been displaced from their residence.
The swift response and coordinated efforts by Naperville's emergency services prevented further damage and potential harm to individuals involved. The community is grateful for their dedication and quick action in handling this situation.
