Photo Digitizer Launches Smart Photo Auto-Rotate for Scanned Photo Collections

New Windows desktop software automatically detects and corrects sideways and upside-down photos, including scanned images without reliable EXIF orientation data.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - TelAve -- Photo Digitizer Launches Smart Photo Auto-Rotate for Scanned Photo Collections
New Windows software automatically detects and corrects sideways and upside-down photos, including scanned images without reliable EXIF orientation data.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — October 16, 2026 — Photo Digitizer, a Jacksonville-based photo and media digitization business, has launched Smart Photo Auto-Rotate, a Windows desktop utility designed to automatically correct mixed photo orientations across entire folders.
The software was created from a problem encountered regularly in professional photo digitization work. Large scanning projects can contain hundreds or thousands of images in a mixture of upright, sideways and upside-down orientations.
Scanned photographs often lack reliable EXIF orientation data, so conventional software may not know how an image should be displayed. Smart Photo Auto-Rotate instead analyzes each photograph individually and determines whether it should remain upright or be rotated 90, 180 or 270 degrees.

Images the software identifies with sufficient confidence are corrected automatically, while uncertain photos are left unchanged for review.
Unlike traditional batch-rotation tools that apply the same rotation to every selected image, Smart Photo Auto-Rotate makes a separate orientation decision for each photograph.
The software supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, TIF and BMP files. Photos are processed locally on the user's computer rather than uploaded to an online service. JPEG images can be rotated with no quality loss.
Smart Photo Auto-Rotate was developed by Prahlad Delaney, founder of Photo Digitizer, after repeatedly encountering mixed photo orientations while processing customer collections.
"Correcting image orientation manually can become one of the most repetitive parts of a large scanning project," said Delaney. "I built Smart Photo Auto-Rotate to automate as much of that process as possible while leaving uncertain images alone for review."
The software is intended for families digitizing old photographs, genealogists, archivists, photographers and professional photo-scanning businesses. It can also be used with ordinary digital image collections containing photos in mixed orientations.
