District 8 students, ages 16-18: a 4-week workforce development program in TV Film Production with County Council backing to start June 29th
LANHAM, Md. - TelAve -- Voices in Motion, Inc., a Maryland-based nonprofit, has opened registration for a new Television/Film Production Workshop and Below-the-Line (BTL) Youth Engagement Bootcamp for 30 District 8 students ages 16-18. The four-week workforce initiative begins June 29 in Lanham and is designed to prepare young people for careers in the entertainment sector through hands-on training and industry mentorship.
The bootcamp introduces participants to BTL production skills and connect them with professionals, including Commodore Independent Filmworks LLC and other industry executives whose credits include work on BET, Paramount, PBS and World Media projects and other prominent productions. Students who complete the program will also be considered for paid apprenticeships in BTL roles on a live film production.

"This program is about creating access and opening doors," said Tammy Truong, Executive Director of Voices in Motion, Inc. "Young people should have the opportunity to see themselves as creators, storytellers and professionals who can build careers in the entertainment industry."
Program outcomes will be tracked through a data partnership with Block Builders Technologies, using a custom system that measures attendance, pre- and post-program surveys, instructor assessments, reviews and participant feedback.
The initiative is funded through an impact grant approved by Councilmember Edward Burroughs III for District 8. Participants are expected to bring focus, discipline and a strong commitment to the experience; this is not a drop-in program, but one for students prepared to engage fully and treat the opportunity with purpose.
In addition to technical production training, participants will build communication, teamwork and collaboration skills through project-based learning designed to strengthen confidence and career readiness. A private red carpet screening to celebrate student accomplishments with parents, Councilmember Burroughs, and mentors concludes the program.
