MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio, April 16, 2025 ~ Progressive Insurance has recently announced the launch of their new endorsement, Cargo Plus, which aims to expand coverage for Motor Truck Cargo purchased by for-hire truckers and other eligible customers. This new endorsement offers protection in the event that a trucker is legally liable for damage to covered property while in their exclusive physical custody and control.

The Cargo Plus endorsement provides additional coverage for perils such as wetness, rust, corrosion, driver error, and changes in temperature on refrigerated loads. This is especially beneficial for customers who also purchase Refrigeration Breakdown coverage. The endorsement will automatically be included on all new Progressive policies with Motor Truck Cargo coverage.

Existing Progressive customers with Motor Truck Cargo or Refrigeration Breakdown coverage can also immediately benefit from the enhanced coverage under Cargo Plus prior to their policy renewal. This move by Progressive showcases their commitment to providing comprehensive solutions that meet the needs of their trucking customers.

For-hire truckers rely on Motor Truck Cargo coverage to protect the goods they are transporting, making it an essential part of securing loads with brokers and shippers. With the added protection of Cargo Plus, these truckers can now move forward with confidence knowing they have the necessary coverage.

As of April 16th, eligible Progressive customers in 42 states including AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN , KS , KY , LA , MA , MD , ME , MI , MN , MO , MS , NC , NE , NH , NJ , NM , NV , OH , PA , RI SD TN TX UT VT WA WI WV and WY can benefit from the new Cargo Plus coverage. The company plans to have the endorsement available in 49 states by May 21, 2025, and in all states by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approval. It should be noted that Refrigeration Breakdown coverage is not available for policies written in CA and FL.

Progressive's Truck classification includes all For Hire Specialty (FHS) vehicles, all For Hire Transportation (FHT) vehicles, and all vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) greater than 16,000 lbs. for Tow, Contractors, and Business Auto.
