Long Beach, CA – This summer, the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer over 700 classes, activities, sports and leagues for people of all ages, abilities and interests. Registration for new and existing recreation classes begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, available online, in person and by mail.

Below are select highlights of classes available to community members this summer. Classes begin in June and will continue through August.

Preschool – Classes give children five years and younger opportunities to learn new skills in a nurturing social setting.

• Preschool Cooking Thyme – Toddlers will be introduced to the world of cooking through fun and age-appropriate activities where they'll learn kitchen safety, nutrition, basic food preparation and healthy snack creation (ages 2 years 6 months to 5 years).
• Bamboleo Amiguitos – Children will be immersed in the Spanish language via a unique style of storytelling, music and movement, games, role-play and art (ages 2 to 4 years).
• Biddy Multisport – Kids will be introduced to soccer and tee ball in a fun and safe environment while learning the basics, fine tuning their motor skills and socializing. Parent participation is required for kids ages 1 year 6 months to 3 years and encouraged for kids 3 to 6 years.

Youth – Classes and camps that will keep your youngster engaged while enhancing their abilities in music, dancing, enrichment and sports.

• Kids Sewing Camp – A newly offered camp for beginners and advanced sewists. Beginners will start with simple projects and build their skills. More advanced campers will make summer dresses, beach bags, stuffed animals and other creative sewing projects (ages 8 to 16 years).
• Jurassic Engineering – Youth will learn about dinosaurs through engineering and science in this immersive LEGO® STEM course. Youth will build habitats, explore prehistoric ecosystems and discover elusive species while learning collaboration, innovation and problem-solving (ages 7 to 12 years).
• Jiu Jitsu – Students will learn Jiu Jitsu maneuvers like escapes, throws and holds while developing listening skills, coordination and self-confidence (ages 6 to 12 years).

Teens – Classes that support the enrichment and wellbeing of teens from music, art and fitness to life skills, dog training and more.

• Row-the-Stadium Camp – A newly offered camp where young rowers will learn the sport of both classic and coastal rowing in a fun and safe environment, including terminology, equipment handling and basic rowing skills (ages 13 to 18 years).
• Basic Cooking for Teens – Students will receive hands-on training in a lecture and kitchen lab environment where they will learn to sauté, simmer, stir-fry and more (ages 13 to 18 years).
• El Dorado Park Yoga – Teens can strengthen, relax and restore with asanas, breath work, relaxation and mindfulness in the beautiful El Dorado East Regional Park (ages 14 years and older).

Adults – Classes for a wide range of adult ages – from arts and culture to fitness, sports and music – that encourage lifelong education, movement and healthy living.

• Fast Quilt – Participants from beginners to advanced will learn to make quilts with a sewing machine (ages 18 years and older).
• Totally '80s Dance – Dancers will chaîné, chassé and lindy ball change their way from center floor, across floor and get into the groove to a totally awesome routine to all our favorite '80s songs (ages 18 years and older).
• Adult Guitar – Participants will kickstart their guitar journey in this energetic six-week beginner class, no instrument needed. Learn essential skills, chords and songs while receiving focused guidance in a small, relaxed group setting (ages 18 years and older).

Older Adults – Classes to support healthy bodies and cognitive minds while creating fun and engaging social connections.

• Dancing Through Parkinsons – A newly offered dance class that will build hope, community and wellbeing through the joy of dance. Classes are designed specifically to aid people living with Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative, mobility and age-related conditions through a unique sequencing of inclusive movement, music and creative expression.  
• Ukulele for Adults 50+ – Older adults will learn to play the ukulele in this energetic beginner course where they will explore the ukulele, learn fun songs and have plenty of fun. No instrument required.
• Functional Movement, Balance and Brains – Participants will work to improve balance, stability, agility and strength using the body, weights and games while brain-training drills will help improve memory, problem solving and mental acuity.

Beginning May 4 at 8 a.m., community members can register for classes online by visiting LBParks.org and clicking on Online Registration under the LB RecConnect side menu button. Registration is also available in person at the Registration Reservations Office (2760 Studebaker Rd.), Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday,8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; Thursday,1 to 5 p.m.; or by mail (2760 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, CA 90815). Popular classes may fill up quickly, so residents are encouraged to register early.

Beginning the week of April 27, the summer issue of Recreation Connection, PRM's recreation catalog, will be available online at LBParks.org. Hard copies will soon be available at Long Beach parks community centers and Long Beach Public Library locations.
